In order to align themselves with the 'English Riviera' image, a number of railway station's in South Devon are undergoing a facelift.

According to a report from onenewspage.co.uk, stations including Torquay, Paignton and Torre will be subject to refurbishment and redecoration work costing around £3.2 million.

Torbay mayor Gordon Oliver made cleaning up the 'gateways' to Torbay one of his priorities, hence the plans to alter and redevelop some of the facilities. The new station design hopes to create an English Riviera theme with boats as planters and blue stones to depict the boats at sea, reports thisissouthdevon.co.uk.

For instance, Torquay station will be undergoing works to improve its canopies and the station's footbridge, along with a number of other repairs to facilities near the station. Paignton station will also be subject to restoration of buildings, canopies and its footbridge.

Simon Gyde, route asset manager for Network Rail, commented on the scheme: "The work has been brought forward to enable Torbay to benefit from a large injection of funding to enhance the environment, adding value to the destination's significant regeneration plans.

"The work undertaken by the Railway Station Adoption Project partners is inspirational and has already made a dramatic improvement to Torquay station and complements the structural and aesthetic renovation we have carried out," he added.
