Plymouth Argyle plans grandstand complex to complete ground

Plymouth Argyle has announced ambitious plans for a new grandstand complex to complete the long-overdue work on its home ground, thisisplymouth.co.uk reports.

Home Park has been missing an element for six years after contractor Barr built three stands during the initial process. Now, Plymouth Argyle looks set to have a completed ground if plans for a new grandstand are given the green light.

The proposals don't just cover the stand, however, but will also detail plans for a new car park, hotel, cinema and ice rink complex all in one localised area. It is hoped the attraction would bring more people to Plymouth's ground and make the surrounding area a much more viable tourist attraction.

It is thought the 400-space car park under the Mayflower Stand will be the first to be built, before the ice rink is built on top. The building won't just comprise the rink; it could also come kitted out with 1,500 seats that would enable it to hold events of its own.

Work, which could also see new bus shelters installed to handle the anticipated influx of visitors, is expected to start in the autumn, provided the proposals are given the go-head.

Explaining the decision behind the expansion, Plymouth Argyle owner James Brent told constructionenquirer.com how he wanted to create a "sporting, leisure and cultural destination" for the local area.
