Confirmation that the line running through Kenilworth's potential new train station will be electrified could give it the upper hand when it comes to garnering investment, cites britishbusinessfinder.com.

Reported in full by kenilworthweeklynews.co.uk, Network Rail has announced a plan to double the tracks as well as electrify the line between Coventry and Leamington - improvements which could help a funding bid for millions of pounds to go towards a new station.

Kenilworth hopes to make its train station design come to life through a bid to the New Stations Fund, though the opening date for submissions currently remains unknown. However, Warwickshire County Council has already prepared a bid as and when submissions do open.

County councillor John Whitehouse believes electrification could improve their chances of securing some of the cash available in the fund, with the exact amount could be around hitting the £6 million mark.

He said: "Kenilworth station ticks all the boxes but these funding pots are always so oversubscribed you never know.

"We have been in dialogue with train companies and they are interested. It is just a case of getting the funding and pulling it together. We have to be patient and wait until the bid can be submitted and that could be any time now," he added.
