The regeneration of Bracknell and the surrounding area continues with the addition of a £1.5 million government grant for the town's bus station, getbracknell.co.uk reports.

Awarded by the Government's Growing Places Fund, the cash was handed to the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership - which then gave it to Bracknell Forest Council.

The council will spend the grant on drawing up bus station design upgrades, as well as rejuvenating Bracknell town centre.

According to bracknellnews.co.uk, the fund will help add new bus stands and electronic screens and, in addition, improve pedestrian routes leading to the hub.

Steve Lamb, chairman of Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (TVB LEP), commented on the fund: "We have already allocated funds to several projects and have some very exciting initiatives underway including this Bracknell infrastructure project.

"The injection of the Growing Places Fund will help the Thames Valley region to be more innovative, productive and attractive for business as we focus on building the infrastructure that will deliver economic prosperity in the area for the next 30 years," he added.

In addition, councillor Marc Brunel-Walker believes the money represents a massive step forward for the town centre as well as the bus station, which represents a vital transport hub for the town.
