TGI Friday's is set to open a new restaurant in Liverpool at Merepark's Central Village £160 million development, according to placenorthwest.co.uk.

It will be the first city centre outlet in Liverpool for the restaurant chain. The restaurant will sit on the Plaza level of the development, taking up 7,650 square feet of space in the extension of Central Station. Many other chains have also chosen to open their first branches in Liverpool - including Chiquito, Coast to Coast and Zouk Tea Bar & Grill.

Work on the regeneration project has already started, with a completion date set to be in 2014. Merepark.co.uk reported that work is scheduled to begin on the new public plaza and the Boardwalk later this year. Street furniture such as bollards and outdoor litter bins are likely to feature in the plans.

The UK director of acquisition and development at TGI Friday's, David Carroll, said: "Liverpool is a city that we've wanted to bring the Friday's experience to for some time. We're pleased to have secured a prime position in the Central Village development as it offers the perfect location for us."

The scheme is extending the retail/leisure area of Liverpool; also featuring three hotels, office space and a new car park.
