A number of train stations in Scotland will be given a makeover worth £2 million in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, reports dailyrecord.co.uk.
A total of 20 stations across the Strathclyde network, including Glasgow Queen Street, Charing Cross and High Street, will be subject to changes in their overall station design thanks to an investment by Scotrail.
Following an agreement by the train operator and the Scottish Government, the plan aims to give the stations a 'fresh new look'. In addition, services will be improved for commuters as it is anticipated that thousands of extra passengers will flock to the city for the Games.
Councillor Archie Graham, executive member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, believes the investment will leave another lasting legacy and bring "further improvement" to Glasgow's transport infrastructure.
Furthermore, Scottish Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon commented on the investment to rail.co: "Almost 20 million commuters already use these three key Glasgow stations every year - this investment will deliver a £2 million transformation of these and other stations, boosting capacity and improving accessibility.
"The 2014 Games will be a huge event, attracting visitors from across the world, and these stations will be gateways to Glasgow as well as the Commonwealth Games," she added.
