Northampton train station plans released

Author: Lauren Sutton - 29 January 2013

The plans and images of Northampton Railway Station have been revealed, according to northampton-news-hp.co.uk.

The development is costing £20 million and is set to start this year.

The new building is set to be almost twice the size of the current station in the town, in a bid to try and boost economy to Northampton. The station design pictures show a three-storey building with a large glass facade and plans for a multi-storey car park. There are also plans to free up space for a commercial development where the existing car park lies.

Councillor Jim Harker said: "Transforming Northampton Castle Station is a key project in helping boost the economy in Northampton. For many, the railway station will be their first introduction to Northamptonshire so it's absolutely essential that this gateway gives a first-rate impression."

Northamptonchron.co.uk reported that a display of the development is due to be held so that local residents can see the work being done on the station.

Brian Binley, the MP for Northampton South, reiterated the importance in the station development. He said that a lot of hard work had been put in to ensure the Department for Transport granted the money to allow the development to go ahead.
