Fylde bus station may need a redesign, claim residents

The new design of a Fylde coast bus station has been slammed after residents expressed their confusion at the layout, derby-couriers.co.uk reports.

Cleveleys Bus Station, on Rough Lea Road, has a 'baffling new layout' - despite a cash injection of £130,000 by Wyre Council. Lancashire County Council also contributed £65,000 towards the work, reports blackpoolgazette.co.uk.

The new terminal, which is set to require another bus station design to fix the work, is also poorly-lit and badly marked out. As a result, some operators have refused to use it.

Mike Horgan, a regular bus user in the area, lamented the new design: "I have just had my first experience of the new Cleveleys Bus Station. What a mess.

"The new signs inside give details that the various buses will depart from bays A,B,C,D,E,F and G while the bays are marked out on the road as 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. I was asked by visitors to the area where they should stand. Confused, I said stay here until the bus arrives."

In addition, chairman of the Blackpool Passenger Focus Panel Stephen Brookes struggled to comprehend why the station 'has gone so badly wrong'.

However, a spokesman for Wyre Council insists that work is not yet complete at the station, nor is it actually operational. "We are due to undertake some testing with Blackpool Transport which may result in further work being required," he said.
