Bromsgrove high street receives lottery grant

Bromsgrove town centre is set for a massive rejuvenation after the area was awarded a significant new lottery grant, bromsgroveadvertiser.co.uk reports.

Shopkeepers in the area are being encouraged to apply for a slice of the grant to renovate their premises, as the money has been earmarked for repairs and renovations on the high street.

As a result, residents could see a glutton of changes to their high street - perhaps such as the introduction of steel benches to help shoppers ease their feet during a busy outing.

The Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), which provided the cash boost, wishes to create an 'effective partnership' between local organisations and, according to bbc.co.uk, will run for five years. In addition, the cash will also be used to set up a training scheme which hopes to offer skills workshops in traditional building techniques, which will help 'fill the skills shortage'.

Bromsgrove District Council's leader, Roger Hollingworth, said of the scheme: "The generous amount of funding we have received will give High Street and Worcester Road a much needed facelift."

In addition Reyahn King, head of Heritage Lottery Fund West Midlands, commented: "By working closely with Bromsgrove District Council and the loyal community, our substantial investment will help restore and repair buildings, bring vacant properties back into use, and create new business and training opportunities."
